Pinball

Post by Meph » Sun May 22, 2016 9:11 pm

I wonder if it's possible to make a pin ball game using Dizzyage?
It'll probably be really hard if it can be done.

My feeling is that you could make any sort of 2D game with DizzyAGE, if you're willing to work at it long enough. With a pinball game, I reckon the big problem would be the collisions - how do you relate the direction of the bounce to the orientation of the surface?

Anyway, I look forward to it with bated breath. :v2_dizzy_biggrin:

No i'm not even going to try it, i'd love to but i couldn't, a job for a dizzyage expert.
Just wondered if it was possible, wouldn't know where to begin.

God knows when i'll get round to finishing Crystal Maze. I need to find my notes which might be impossible. My studio is full of bit of paper piled up, pinned to the wall, it in here somewhere.. lol

Once i finish my puppet project (which was started 2/3 years ago) i can get back to Dizzy properly.

Anyway.... Dizzy Pinball... *dool*

Think i need to join Grandad in retirement so i can get all theses things done.

Hmmmmm! This is the kind of challenge I'd look into if I still had the time. *thinks* No I don't have the time.

I actually don't think it'd be possible anyway. Or at least, very difficult. The issue isn't moving the ball, or even detecting a collision, it would be working out which angle to deflect the ball at. Part of the problem would be that all brushes are rectangles in DizzyAGE, so you'd have to work out how far along the square brush the ball had collided, as well as having kept a record of the angle that the ball went in at. You'd then write some kind of formula for how the deflection was worked out, but this would be very difficult to get spot-on, as you'd effectively be second-guessing physics, and if it deflected at the wrong angle, people would get annoyed with the game.

Throw in having to write your own movement code, as well as junk all of the current stuff.

All in all, extremely difficult, and probably not worth the hassle.

Bet you're tempted ;)

What about mouse support with dizzyage, is that possible?
I thinking about those point and click adventurers. Wonder if something could be done with dizzyage.

Nah, it really would be far too complicated to do.
