Yesterday I was told that nobody could view www.yolkfolk.com
When i tried to access the site it came back with an error.
EUKHost who host the server dont know their **** from their ***** (fill in your own words here)
Peter came online and we found out that an ip spammed the system and accessed the site literally thousands of times in the space of seconds.
If this is conincidence or not, the databases corrupted around the same time.
EUKHost just said after an hour long conversation with them... just restore the database... Thanks guys... great help you lot are.
For those who dont know, EUKHost have given me a lot of trouble behind the scenes where things haven't worked or gone wrong.. They dont accept responsibility for anything. I'd advise not going there.
So back on with the post.
I am forced to restore the whole site to an earlier date.. this annoys the hell outta me and im sure most of you feel the same.

What really REALLY annoys me is that a few hundred petition posts are now lost...
I am NOT a happy egg!

And what annoys me is that some posts are deleted too! :surprise: Since the forum is hosted at the same place as the site it seems to be related.

You should keep a local copy of the site; useful for development and testing purposes as well as acting as a rudimentary (though always up to date) backup.

So what exactly was breached? where passwords at risk and what has been done by the hosting company to stop this from reaccruing.. EUKHost have a responsibility to insure this is investigated to the full and all possible holes filled.

For what i could see looking at mysql is that most, but not all of the databases had been scrambled somehow, not sure how. This happened at the same time as what looks like a D.O.S attack on the server, we know the IP of where the attack come from which resolves to Cambridge University.

Anyways to stop this from happening again we will be taking daily site backups of the databases.

Its a good job i had local copies of the databases even though a few weeks old else we may have lost alot more. {dizzy}

This sucks  I thought maybe something had gone wrong during an update or something. Why would anyone target a Dizzy site?

If EUKhost are so crap are you considering taking your business elsewhere?

I've fixed the games sections, the screenshots and downloads should all still be there.

Any other problems, please post it here.

Definitely sounds like a DoS attack to me.

It wasn't me!! I can prove it wasn't me - I was in some fields in Glastonbury!
:O )

Seriously though - ALWAYS keep backups. As a software developer I know that ans the frustration this causes!
