does anybody know how to make your own speccy type music/sounds? i've got the ay emulator & st sound from dizzyage & some old speccy musicmaker programs on emulator but i keep thinking there must be an easier way, maybe something like a simple music keyboard prog that saves in ay format?

I haven't tested such a tool, but have a look here:
http://bulba.at.kz/vortex_e.htm
Bulba's website is dedicated to this kind of music,
and if the mentioned tool doesn't do it, maybe you can find some
useful links, or you can reach some useful forums.
Anyway, post here your findings. I'm sure other people are interested too.

alex, looked at that site, the vortex tracker looks interesting but it seems to be more for editing existing ay files not making your own. theres tons of ay music there as well. there doesnt seem to be any way of converting to ay format from anything else but there must be cos people are making new ay music so back to the forums. [must learn russian]
Hi,
This is all I can find on the internet so far:
http://www.vorc.org/en/info=AY
and
http://www.worldofspectrum.org/projectay/tech.htm
Not much, but I hope it helps

both links have an extra "http://" which breaks the link
Thanks Colin, I didn't spot that!
Fixed it now

cheers claire, the WOS site is brilliant for speccy stuff, got a lot from there.the vorc site is one i didn't know about but it looks interesting. had a thought that dizzyage can play midi which would solve a lot of problems. have to check with alex. found a great moog program that can save to midi then use midi2ay ...watch this space for dizzy the rock opera
I would think your best bet is to find a tracker that runs on a Spectrum, Amstrad, or Atari st. Get an emulator and the disk image for it,
then use the emulator to export the AY or YM, although not all emulators let you do this.
Or you could learn to code on one of the computers and create your own drivers and music... although thats pretty low level stuff and is most likely the most difficult way.
Although you can probably make fairly decent music in a basic program instead of 'machine code'.

You can make your own music on Vortex Tracker, you'd just need to know how to construct your AY instruments. You could always start from an existing tune and use it's instruments. Theres also a SID tracker for Windows called GoatTracker, you can save your songs as SIDS and as PRG files that you can then run on the C64, if you know how {yolkfolk}
