There was once a game i used to play when i was in Germany i think over 15 years ago but i could never remember the name... a few years and years i when though the net seeing if i could find out what it was.. i thought id know from a screenshot.
Anyway.. had no luck unlit the other day when i discover the cover of Gauntlet.. while i don't remember the screenshots or they ain't quite has i remember them the name and cover seemed very familiar I'm pretty certain its that 'lost' game from my boyhood :teethy: I'm gonna see if i can get a copy and test it out... maybe the version i played wasn't the commodore version cause i thought the graphics looked a bit better but I'm sure this was it.
The other two i remember but can't remember the name were maze types ones as well but one involved being chased by snakes (we used to just call that 'that snake game') even my mum still remembers it.. any idea that what one could be? And the other i think had a stick man character looking for gold or something... I'll know theses as soon as i see them
EDIT: just remembers theses would be DOS games and i just seen a dos screen shot for Gauntlet it that is the game!!! Fantastic!!!!!!!!!
The stick man looking for gold could be Maziacs. I used to love that game. I first played the original version on the Sinclair ZX81 which was called Mazogs.
Gauntlet was a classic!!! had me playin for hours at a go.
I had it on the ST & remmebr that I used to plug in a second joystick for 2 player so that the other character would attract all the baddies whilst i could go exploring.
Who was your favourite? The Elf, Wizard, Warrior or the other one?? As for the baddies - seemingly endless, coming out of these random boxes all over the place. And those dark grim reaper looking ones were so hard to kill.
I also remember the speech warning you - "Red Elf is in danger" or "blue wizard is about to die!", and the countdown noise to their death (also the way the characters used to lose energy every few seconds without being attacked and helplessly searching for health restoring icons which i suppose was supposed to look like raw meat??
What got me tho was those annoying transporter things - which could send you anywhere and sometimes to places where you would be walled in with no hope of reaching the exit

I've had Gauntlet 1, 2 and 3 for the Spectrum, I reached level 130 on the first one once. :smile: The music on some of the games were nice and adventurious like, especially Gauntlet 3 on the Spectrum and Gauntlet 4 on the Sega MegaDrive.
I also own Gauntlet Legends on the Playstation, Gauntlet Dark Legacy and Gauntlet Seven Sorrows on the Playstation 2. Legends and Dark Legacy to me are the best ones as they have like switch puzzles.
As I've gotta to get the Christmas tree out of the loft while im up there im checking my c64 and games for one in particular. .because i don't remember its name.. i want to see if anyone else remembers it.
Head Over Heels is a great game! I love those old isometric monochrome puzzlers. They were always very hard though I thought, but I just loved 'em. Head Over Heels is definitely one of the best examples of the genre. I'll log in tomorrow, very curious as to what game you're digging out!
p.s It's Christmas almost and the c64 always seems to come out this time of year.. usually because im n the attic getting the tree down.. but i tend to use the emulator than hook that old machine up.. :tongue: which is why im trying to find these games.
I never had Video Meanies, but I have Firelord. It's similar to another game that I used to play the heck out of, Wizard's Lair. I think they were made by the same person IIRC.
Dan Dare, as in the first one where it was presented in a comic book style was awesome! My Bruv and I used to play that a hell of a lot. I remember the first time I actually managed to get into the Treen base and align the lasers to enter the Mekon's room... A truly brilliant adventure game! Breathing through the reed and everything. Even the combat was good once you got the hang of it. And the disguise! Just remembered that!
The other Dan Dare games were awful, you sort of flew along in a little ship shooting things. Terrible games. But that first one is a classic {yolkfolk}:music:
I didn't mind the others i played them first on a different machine (my dad was a fan) but later on i found the orignal for my C64 but because it was so different i didn't really like it .. it was very hard.
There is one game on the ZX Spectrum that really got me hooked but can't remember the name of it. It was a 2D style platform game where you had to solve various puzzles on your travels, a bit like Dizzy. It was set in Egypt I think and was based early in the 20th century.
Sorry, not much to go on there, but that's all I remember of it. I remember I loved this game though and would love to play it again. Perhaps if there is a site that lists every Spectrum game with a brief description, someone could post it here and I will have a look. Perhaps if I see the title of the game in such a list, it will all come back to me {yolkfolk}:scratch:
Another awsome game was 'Soldier of Fortune' on the speccy which was developed by a company called Graftgold. This was also a platformer where you played a warrior who in 4 or 5 seperate stages has to collect all the natural elements Earth, Sun, Fire and Water. To collect each of the elements, each stage consists of various scattered pieces of the picture to create each one. So addictive this game and I completed it only once. Took me yonks to do though, very tough especially towards the end.
EDIT: I've just found the title of the game I was thinking of, it's 'Sceptre of Baghdad'. I've just found this out from the 'World of Spectrum' website. Excellent website by the way.
I was in the mood some some old classics..and decided to have another hunt for some favorites, but you know what its like you never remember the name of them... finally I've found a couple from my list.
I could only find the ending.. but did anyone else have this? While the clip doesn't show much it was a very fun game.

Yeah.. Spy Hunter... i had it on the flip side of the 'up n down' cassette.. never knew what it was called I've just tracked it down due to it's music. The helicopters used to always get me :sad:
