Hello everybody,

Alex has kindly registered my new game, Knightmare Dizzy, for the Easter competition. Here is the game's page:
https://yolkfolk.com/games/knightmare-dizzy/

The game is based on the old Children's ITV show "Knightmare", in which a kid was guided through a computer-generated dungeon by three of his friends, trying to avoid dangers using objects and spells.
For those who have never seen it, this fan site offers lots of pictures and information:
http://www.knightmare.com/

However, you should not need to know anything about Knightmare to solve the puzzles in my game.

Comments and bug reports are very welcome. The game is only medium-sized, but if you get stuck and want help, please let me know.

Cheers,
Tom

Great game.. really enjoying it.
No i don't think non knightmare fans will find it hard.. the puzzles work quite well and are logical.. but being a fan kinda make the experience much more fun! In fact those puzzles could become quite complex if you really wanted them (causeway for example which is hard to do unless you can make that room 'top view'

I need one more letter.. i know what that will do.. but im trying to find the smelly thing at the moment.

A Bug.. biggest problem is the Items get lost in the background or blend in.. while other times you drop them behind and can't see them (the stocks for example) And i did find some black screens with not names.. but i haven't come across anything else.

Sounds effects are cool, and i like the monsters!
Oh you should post it on the knightmare forum they might get a kick out of it.. im sure they all played dizzy at some point.. lol (i lost my account details i used to be on there)

It's up on Yolkfolk.com too

I actually watched some episodes of Knightmare on YouTube today, just to relive some childhood memories  I was pretty much in my playgroup and early primary school years when Knightmare was around.

I've had a quick go on the game to see which areas I can access, I'll have a proper play tomorrow.

Wow - This is so cool.

The themetune and intro from Treguard really takes me back. I wonder, do we get to see the funny helmet thing they made dungeoners wear?

Great game - should be an instant hit for the comp - Truth Accepted!!

Thanks for pointing this out Meph, I didn't realise it was happening... I'll try to fix that in a new version soon.

I was a bit worried at first that this one might be a clone of the
original Knightmare game, which was a pretty awful 3D thing, but
I was delighted to see a much more typical side scrolling Dizzy game !
I felt the puzzles were logical and fun to complete and I love the
sound effects and music, especially being rewarded with the original
theme at the end.
I especially liked the part that deals with the fate of the wicked
sorcerer at the end -- his dialogue had me laughing !
Good work Tom

I had a proper play today  I must admit I'm truly amazed {yolkfolk} The game does actually have a nice 'Knightmare' feel to it.

I can only find 19 coins so far, and the items I have are Bag of Salt, Rook, Bottle of Poison, Bottle of Power, bird seed and an empty box.

I found a minor sound bug too, y'know the sound played when you go through a door? Well the end of that sound has a *click* noise on it.

Nice work, Tom

This is fantastic.

Ive just completed it & i must say, that for the first time ever, Ive actually had a dungeoneer get all the way thru and win the cup! - I cant remember ever seeing anyone win on the TV show - what a great feeling  )))

It used to be so frustrating on TV with those spotty faced teenagers who didnt know left from right - shouting conflicting instructions and always managing to kill their friends just when it got interesting.

I also think this game is a very clever tribute to the tv show.
This game gets top marks for me as one of the best tribute games i have ever played - The music & feel of the game are spot on, with the right mix of puzzles, characters and wording. Also some clever use of multiple puzzle outcomes - great stuff!!

As a compo entry - my feeling is that altho it doesnt really compare to the graphics, sfx or technical complexities of some other games - it gave me such a great feeling from the mix of nostalgia combined with a fantastic all round game play & just loads and loads of F-U-N (in capital spelltastic letters) - certainly will get my vote {yolkfolk}
GREAT Stuff!!

Please Please Please tell us there'll be a sequel???

I'd love to see if you could incorporate the helmet and eye shield or that wall monster that told riddles - or those scary smell-sensing creatures, or even like in the later series, some sort of pixelated photorealstic 3-d type effects or even that rolling dice thing??

Or how about, rather than an energy bar - have a picture of Dizzy, losing bits of its shell, evry time you get damage, right until the last eye ball floats away - that was so cool in the tv show.

This game can only be summed up by:
Spellcasting:
E-G-G-C-E-L-L-E-N-T-!-!-!

btw:
When finished. should i have these as unused items (is this ok): birdseed, 3 balls (puzzling as i'm sure the jester gave advice on these??), salt, rosemary, box, parsley, power potion, newspaper, bush.....
Also, does the maze only have 2 working doors, and is there a set way of getting thru the other door - as i just try them all until it works?

And is it a bug that when you action to slow the moving green ledge, that it 'jumps' back to the far left of the gap (dizzy's side)?

Thanks again guys for the good reception!

Adz: yes, there is an annoying click on the door sound... I hadn't noticed that before. I'll have a go at fixing that for the next version
When finished. should i have these as unused items (is this ok):
Yes, all the items you listed are unused. There are three genuine red herrings... on reflection, perhaps I should have left them out. Regarding the jester's balls: they were simply there to provide you three unused objects to mark the rooms in the maze with.
Also, does the maze only have 2 working doors, and is there a set way of getting thru the other door – as i just try them all until it works?
There are four identical rooms in the maze, and some doors take you to an identical door in an identical room. It was meant to be a small puzzle where you drop items (the jester's balls) to make the rooms look different, then you can tell whether you're going in circles, and remember the route (but with only four rooms you don't really need to do that).
And is it a bug that when you action to slow the moving green ledge, that it ‘jumps’ back to the far left of the gap (dizzy’s side)?
I'm afraid that was bad design on my part! :umm: I'll definitely fix that in an update. Thanks for pointing it out.

Great game! Good idea to base it around Knightmare, one of my favourite TV shows, when I was in first school. I like the way you were so accurate with the dialog and characters.

I completed it this morning  Solved the chessboard puzzle which I didn't really think was solvable then, but I got through and beat the game

I must admit, it really does have a rather creepy feel when you're exploring these strange areas.

Not played it since as i was in the Puppet Theater all evening/night yesterday.

But i liked how the Maze worked and the jester balls were a nice idea.
Only thing if the game was made a bit bigger you could earn those balls.

Getting Dizzy to ride the dragon would be pretty cool.

Anyway when i start again im after that smelly thing.
