I thought it was really clever how the solution to the letters puzzle was stated all along - you just have to think a little cryptically...

{yolkfolk}:yahoo: Dizzy saved the day again with alittle help from his friends. I'll look forward to playing an updated version if you get round it it with the proper intro and end.

Certainly got a bit dizzy getting lost in the map but i enjoyed it, once you get to grips with the game play and nature of the puzzles its pretty good. I like having to use more than one object to fix something, the Different yolkfolk with different skills was great, i don't think the scrolling made a huge difference to the gameplay but appears it could be a popular addition to future games. I guess the tricky bit was find out what needed fixing.. and with common sense the puzzles can be easily solved. though i got stuck in the Docks for a while probably the leasts logical one. :teethy:

Great stuff.

I've just completed the game- great work! :teethy: It must have taken you ages to program the puzzles, but in my opinion it was worth it.
Please do add the intro and outro later if you want to, it's a game I would happily play through again in the future.

Also- I want to say how much I appreciate your hard work in converting these old Spectrum adventure games into DizzyAGE. It's something no-one else has done (with non-Dizzy games), and I've really enjoyed playing them.

I remember playing 'Megabucks' at my friend's house when I was a kid (although we never got very far  ), and it's great to be able to play it as 'Dizzy's Dream Home' now.
I'd never played 'Everyone's a Wally' before though- it's a really nice piece of Speccy adventuring, and made me curious to check out the others in the series- 'Pyjamarama' and 'Three Days in Paradise' look interesting.
Also, has anyone ever played 'Slightly Magic'? That's a great Codemasters game, very Dizzy-like.

Anyway- don't let a couple of bad scores get you down- I for one am very grateful for the time you put into these remakes, and I'll be sure to remember that when I vote {yolkfolk}

Thank you very much to the member that scored this 1 point last night. It really boosts my motivation to create more games.

Is the game so bad or did you just not like it? If it was a case of not liking it did you have to be so horrible. I spent over 3 months creating it. If the game is terrible then fair enough.

I was going to spend today sorting the colour clashing with the background issue but I don't have will to do it now.

I don't actually like the idea of being able to see how the scoring is going. I think it should stay hidden until the end. If I hadn't seen it I wouldn't be feeling so p****d of now. Also I feel it encourages strategic voting late on as it stands now.

[/quote]

whoever gave this game just 1/10 obviously doesn't appreciate what goes into making a game and how good this game is and how lucky we are to have this community - i just finished it today and thought it was great - all the games this year are so good and have their own special qualities some of which we've never had before and i should think most of us will have a bit of a tough time choosing a winner - keep up the good work macon and don't let one silly score get to you {yolkfolk} {yolkfolk} {yolkfolk}

Updated to version 1.02.

This update makes changes to the in game objects that tend to get lost in the background. The objects have a black outline drawn around them and/or have changed colour. They have not been changed in the hud as this will be done in the coming major update.

Save games should still be compatible.

The help thread is here if you're stuck on this game.

https://yolkfolk.com/communityforum/dizzy-fan-games-help/yolkfolk-to-the-rescue-help-thread-2/

@Spooky3 , I'm not having a go at you, but I would really appreciate it if you would stop posting PM's to people if you're stuck on a game.

Please use the help thread and only the help thread if you need any help with the game at all.

Plus, could you learn to be a little more patient in the future? Someone here will stop by and help you out as soon as possible, just not immediately.

You will be given a warning if you ignore my message.

Thanks

Version 1.02 bug.
I have all 11 letters. I've tried to use the letter T at first and an error message occured:

There is a bug if you use the letter T out of sequence. It is fixed for the forthcoming 1.1 release. As well as the bug fix there is a graphical inventory, non playing characters can move into other game locations and other cosmetic changes.

I still have to do an intro and outro but because of this bug I will release the new version before then. The intro and ending can be version in 1.2.

Yolkfolk to the Rescue v 1.1.

As there are changes to the map, save games from versions 1.0, 1.01 and 1.02 will no longer work. Sorry about this.

I am actually releasing this earlier than I would have liked as there are still a couple of things to do. But as a couple of people have reported a fatal bug with the letter 'T' I thought I would release my latest stable work in progress. There are some new features as well as the bug fix.

What's New
========
Fixed letter 'T' bug.
Fixed dropping item in a neverending room bug.
Graphical inventory similar to 'Dizzys Dream Home'.
The book in the classroom is more difficult to get.
Yolkfolk move to different locations within the town at certain milestones in the game.

A screenie of the new inventory display

Still to do
=======
Intro and ending. I wanted to complete them for this release but as mentioned earlier a fatal bug meant releasing this early.

A Word About The Yolkfolk Changing Locations
==============================
Some players have asked me why you need to be in the same room as a character to be able to switch to it. This is because in the game that this is based upon, 'Everyone's a Wally', it used to switch characters in the same way. The difference being is that the characters used to walk about on their own and if you needed to switch then you would have to go find them. Because the characters moved you could never reach them by following them instead you had to cut them off. Hence the circular map with shortcuts. Another feature was that the characters could pickup and drop objects if they so desired. I thought the whole thing looked cool and I wanted to re-create it in my game. So I kept the circular map even though it was confusing until you got the hang of it and coded the character find and switch routines. The AI of the characters which i nicknamed 'free will' I decided to leave until the core of the game was done

However it soon became clear that free will would be a big mistake in its current form. To be able to make the game I had to play the original in great detail and watch a recording of the game serveral times. It soon became clear what a pain in the arse having AI was. For example say your player had the screwdriver and it was of no use to you but the electrician still had a use so you drop it in a convenient place for the electrician. You then find the electrician and switch to him which is straightforward with the circular map. Next off you go to get the screwdriver thats been left for you only to find some blighter has nicked it and there is a bloody can of beans in its place.

So off you go to find whose taken it by finding each character in turn. If you're lucky you'll get the screwdriver back but chances are the thief has dropped it somewhere and a search of each location ensues. Still can't find it? That's because someones probably picked it up again. It goes on an on like this everytime you need an object. i got so frustrated in researching the original game that I thought it best that I spare the players of my game a similar fate. 'Free will' was dropped but the code for finding a character remained so maybe I could do something with it at a future date.

Now is that future date and what i have done is at certain points in the game the yolkfolk appear in different locations to give the impression they have a mind of their own. Does it add to the game? Only time will tell. If it doesn't then I'll just chalk it down to experience.I would like to incorperate 'free will' into one of my future projects if I can make it playable. I'll have to think about it.

Anyhow, for those that asked why you could only switch characters when they are in the same room. There is the answer. It's a bit long winded which is why I kept putting off answering before.

Just an progress update.

I have been working on the intro and ending. The intro is complete and I will do the ending sometime soon.

In the ending you will find out the contents of the safe. I can tell you that the contents are not nice for the Yolkfolk and it paves the way for a future game. Though it won't be my next project because that is a sequel to 'Dream Home'.

A couple of screenies.

Wow... After being absent for some time, it's great reading up on the new releases people have put out. I can't tell you how good it feels to come back here and see the community still running stronger than ever, creating games of such incredible quality. The screenshots and indeed the whole idea of this game sounds amazing, I can't wait to try it.... There's just so much to catch up on! I'm only sorry I missed the chance to play them all during the competition.

Version 1.2 is now released.

Unless there are any bugs to be fixed, this game is finally finished. Please note save games from previous releases will not work. Sorry about this.

The game now has a proper ending. It is a bit lengthy but I wanted to set it up nicely for a future sequel. It won't be my next game though as I am going to start work on 'Dream Home 2' (I don't have a name for it yet).

A screenie.

Those of you that have completed the game might not want to play through it again just to see how it ends. So I have supplied a save game which can be downloaded below. The save takes the player to just before the end of the game. Just exit the screen to the right. I don't want new players to be able to cheat so I will make the save only available for a short time. To use the save just put it in the game folder and it will appear in save slot 1. Please note the save will only work with the latest release of the game (1.2)
