Right here we go, my inaugural game that is in development called SWAMPLAND DIZZY {yolkfolk}:dizzy:

The story:-

Dizzy, Daisy and the rest of the yolkfolk clan were on an outing to the Yolkfolk land of Yonda. The weather was lovely & the day was being enjoyed, so much so that Zaks decided they were enjoying it just that bit too much.

Zaks therefore thought he would do something about that & created out of nowhere a freak storm to occur. Dark threatening clouds had formed and a sudden heavy downpour ensued with some strong winds. Although it didnt last too long it saturated part of the land, swamping the ground so much so it caused a landslide. Although Dizzy was quick to take evasive action & avoid poor Daisy went down with the landslide and became trapped. Dizzy cant reach her and has to find a means to rescue her from the swamped landslide.

Progress:-

Ive pretty much completed the map, about 100-110 rooms, and but for a bit of additional coding if I decide to add to, most of the coding is now finished. The sequence too is pretty much complete for the gameplay. The ending can be considered finished I feel.

All the music segments have been added, there are a number of these within the game. Any music buffs may recognise them, although I didnt know any of them myself so maybe not, credits to be added for them.

I havent started doing the coins except to test the coding when all have been found (to test I made coin count = 1) and given to the appropriate character in the game, that is working. As ive left till last I need to watch the tutorial again to know how to do these for the hidden ones.

I still need to code the baddies (EDITS as forgot to include)

Some of the narration and dialogue isnt quite aligned but is ok in the main, how much time I spent on this before im happy will have to see. It doesnt really detract from the gameplay so I may not worry too much on that.

All in all ive actually progressed much quicker than expected, ive put 2010 on the game, whether or not I release this year even so or next I aint changing that lol. Also I havent decided whether to enter it in next years comp (if so then be later releasing), cant say I too fussed either way on that but if people give support that I should I may do.

I have decided to add a couple of red herrings, I feel the puzzles are pretty logical but decided I would just so helps to make the game a little more challenging.

Whenever I get where I feel I can class as finished I will need explanation of what I need to do to make it available as I dont know how as yet.

I will also have to actually play the whole game through myself just in case ive missed anything that isnt right. Whether I put to testers I dunno.

This may be a first for a Dizzy game but the screen you start the game will be the screen you complete the game on.

Screenshots:-
Right, heres hoping ive successfully managed to show a few screenshots below (fingers crosssed they show).

Well it sure looks colourful, so does the HUD

I wish you good luck LDoY, don't touch any quicksand whilst in the swamp will ya?

Looking great! Nice colors.
One piece of advice: avoid using scale on tiles, especially if not x2,etc. If you scale down at let's say 80%, some pixels might look smaller than others if you play at 640x480 (x2).
It's best to repaint the tiles smaller if you need.

Mmm, im intrigued, how can you tell, I assume you are viewing as quoting, there are lots of resized tiles in the game im afraid. But on my screen they look perfectly fine so I wouldnt of known. I dunno how to redraw smaller so scaling has the effect.

I love the screenshots! Looks like there's a lot of detail gone into the map! Only thing i don't like is the stretched image on the intro screen.

Keep it up, and hopefully you will be able to release it this year!

One other thing if you're using scaled brushes, test how they look in the smallest screen size, as some may not show up properly.

Looks excellent.

Maybe you should release it this year and do another for the 2010 comp?
Because no doubt you'll get bigger and better ideas between now and then,

Yes I agree, ive had a lot of difficulty with that, I couldnt get it clear, was rather blurry at first but then manage to make it much better but does look a bit stretched though as you say. I may decide to see if I can bring it in a bit.

EDITS:- Title Screen changed

Thanks for the comments.

Thanks Meph for the great comment. Im pleased with the initial reception {yolkfolk}:dizzy:

Well tbh my ideas at the moment have all gone into this one so im kinda bit dry now lol. Ive always wanted to try and make one but I dunno whether im likely to be a multiple game creator like some of yourselves have been. I suppose it will be if I get the inclination again to do another at another time in the future or not. I saw as a bit of a challenge however to try learn.

Progress Update:-

Ive added all the coins now so thats complete. Ive been adding a few baddies to the game and although I could add a few more I feel those I have will suffice now.

I feel all in all happy enough with the narration and dialogue that in the main
they are aligned and ok.

I made a number of changes to the map since the initial post and now feel
far ahead of expected that the game can be considered finished...wow lol

Ive played it all through and all seems ok, ha, famous last words, anyway
will take as unless im advised to have some game testers.

I feel the puzzles are rather logical and relatively easy really in the main but
then thats perhaps because I know then all

All I need now is for someone to explain what I need to do to make the game available.

p.s. All, go lightly on me if there were to be any bugs in the game however hee hee

well i would seriously advise that you ask people to test it for you first. you may not think so, but they WILL find bugs, things you hadn't intended, or maybe even suggest things that might work better.

Yes I was treading very lightly lol....just in case....but I seemed to progress much better than I expected once the main bulk of it was there & I also managed to spend much more time on it than I expected also.

To prepare it for release, check the "Release" chapter in the book:
https://www.yolkfolk.com/dizzyage/books/dizzyage/page20_release.html
Then zip it and send it to me on email.

I have some time for playing this weekend, so if you want, I can do some beta-testing, provide you some feedback, and give you the chance to improve it a little more, before official release.

Either way you must send it to me. Just let me know if you want it uploaded directly or if you want to wait for the feedback.

[EDIT] I have seen your message - yes a short walkthrough for beta-testing would be useful, just in case.

Thanks Alex. I think ive managed to do the necessary to prepare it, its packed and ready for emailing to you (just need you to confirm where I need to send, ive PM'd you), If you can do some beta-testing prior to official release then that be great. I know a few are eager to play from the posts but I will wait until youve had chance to do a bit of testing.
