while looking for a program i could use to write my own Spectrum Music on a PC (anyone know of one?), i came across a little group called the AY Riders.

They make their music not using instruments or modern PCs, but using Spectrums. Consequently thier music sounds exactly like the kind of thing you'd hear in a spectrum game. The 'AY' is the sound chip in the
Spectrum.

They have SEVEN albums released! check them out here:

https://ay-riders.speccy.cz/ you can download all the songs from the first 5 albums for free, and a couple from the last two albums.

i especially like this album cover:

Wow - that stuff is really good - they've even managed to cover pop songs!

Challenge:
I wonder if anyone can take the AY Riders Spectrum version of Madonnas Hung Up and make a dizzyage music video using dancing yolkfolk?

If so there's a magazine available in shops called Computer Music. On every cover DVD there is a software suite called The CM Studio. It contains, amongst other software, Computer Muzys (an audio and MIDI sequencer) and a VST plugin called 'Odo Synths Unknown 64'.

If you plug the synth into Computer Muzys (or any other VSTi compatible sequencer) you can play away to your heart's content!

EDIT: It appears that you can get the synth from here without having to but the magazine!

Misters, I look you not in a course that in Russia and neighbouring countries with might and main write music on ZX-Spectrum. Here a site with huge archive of AY-melodies. And here, it is possible to listen to AY-music in a player, directly on a site of one of musicians.

Sorry for my English, I write by means of the translator.

after a little browsing - I found their myspace page which has a link to contact them
http://www.myspace.com/ayriders

I also found a pic of one of their old flyers, which appears to have another website address on it - but youd need very good eyes to work it out (bottom right of pic - in orange)

There are other projects like this, such as the back in time CD's which are toured by a live band of old Commodore musicians!
They even tour with a band, check them out...
