It takes indeed a lot of time and effort and, as some games developers say, "people show their appreciation with their wallet". And if you look at it from a business point of view, and you consider how much it costs you to make the game, given the hour salary of a programmer and the time spent... well you don't want to think at that
It will be really difficult to gain as much as other "indie" games, due to the "retro" style (few colors, low resolution). Even the today's retro gamers are not much into this style - that's what I found showing TOS in other forums and from reviews. So probably the most sells will come from the Yolkfolk community. But I think it will be enough to cover the need for motivation, especially since Jamie would do it anyway  .
About the prize, I'd think like ?3 per episode. Finish episode 2 and update the first one, and have an special offer like ?6 for the whole trilogy (paid in advance, to support the third one). New people can buy only the first one to see if they like it. And those who know about it and want the whole trilogy would take advantage of the offer and practically get the first one for free. I personally would pay that much for it.
As for a copy protection I say don't bother too much. Have the download process as simple as possible. I think a PayPal solution would be best. Also try to automatize the download, so people can download the game right after paying (not wait for you to send a special download link). I'd be happy to add any special scripting you need on your game's page to support the pay and download process.

Good luck with it!

yeah, i was thinking about having the 'edited' TLoD as a free download still (as the 'original' would still be freely available anyway), and then charge about £3 for each additional chapter.
i couldn't really charge £6 for two before i'd made the last chapter, as apart from the fact that the last chapter may not ever get made (unlikely, but not out of the question), how would i keep track of everyone who had already paid? especially if a year of more had passed.
i'm playing around with a lot of ideas in my head regarding this. My primary concern at the moment is how much it would cost me to get a site hosted that included PHP coding. it works out at ?60 a year with 1and1, and that doesn't include a mySQL database either (not that i'd really need one!).
That kinda defeats the whole point of it, however i do know of a free hosting service that's pretty good, the only issue with that is that the address would be http://www.SITENAME.HOSTINGSERVICE.com. oh, and sometimes it's down.
oh and i'd need to think of something to replace the 'Dizzy Legends' name. preferably with 'legends' still in there somewhere.
Some people would prefer to wait until all three episodes are done and then buy, to avoid playing only a part of the story and never find out the ending.
As for a website, the best thing is to register a com domain, have some reliable hosting.
From what I know about PayPal, you can have the buy page on the paypal website and direct to it from your own. You can customize it a little, depending on your account. With a more "professional" PayPal account you can keep and integrate the pay page in your website - but this is too expensive I think.
There are also other websites offering similar services (RegNow, Plimus, etc). It is very important to keep records of who's buying and collect customers emails to be able to tell them about your future games.
If you want to keep it simple, you can point to the buy page from your DizzyAGE game's page. If you choose to have a special website then you'll just link to it from DizzyAGE, like I did with TOS.

i'm thinking along the lines of buying a domain name and hosting it on a free hosting site (such as 110mb.com), with the domain name pointing at it. Then i'd do a fairly simple site with links to paypal to pay for the game. Hopefully Paypal will be able to collect the email addresses etc for me, as even though it'd be on a free site, i still wouldn't be able to store any information.
As for the third part, i will do it, but i can't promise a timeframe. It will probably be next year, but may be a bit earlier or a bit later. After all, y'all will probably want a dizzy game from me in the meantime!
all i need now is to think of a name to replace 'Dizzy Legends'. Anyone who thinks up the name that i end up using will get a free copy of CoTM! Obv it can't have anything to do with Dizzy. I thought of 'Legends of Valhalla', but i don't want to use the Valhalla name either, as there are already tonnes of things around with that kind of name (try googling it). I would however prefer something along those lines. Oh and it can't be too specific to either of the first three games (TLoD, CoTM, and RoTR), as if i decide to do more games after RoTR, they will carry the title as well, but won't be part of the trilogy.
Something like Terry Brooks' "Shanarra" would do (although I'm sure your games will have a better plot than the Shannarra books  )
Inspired by TLoD, I can suggest a few rather uninspired fantasy titles:
"Legends of Dark Earth"
"The Reign of Shadows"
"The Tyrant in the Tower"
"The Empire of Blood"
...it's quite fun thinking up titles!
'Legends of Dark Earth' is along the lines of what i'm looking for, as i do like the 'Legends' moniker, whether as a prefix or as a suffix. but i just can't think of anything to add onto that.
"Return of the R..."?
im sure of it.
Legends of Kallidore
Legends of Cydonia
Cydonian Legends
Legends of Kalen
Kalen Legends
or none of the above?
i like both
Legends of Cydonia and
Cydonian Legends
the second one flows better in speech, but the first sounds more like a title.
Kallidor sounds very close to Keldor.
And of course it's this Kalidor:

I would look further more.
And google for it to avoid picking something even more popular than Dizzy
Lost Legends
Legends of Humbuk
Legends of Lamaryna
Legends of Stryomine
Legends of Stryamin

Lost Legends
Legends of Humbuk
Legends of Lamaryna
Legends of Stryomine
Legends of Stryamin

Humbuk sounds like a Mongolian warrior, not really DizzyAGE style.
Lamaryna is a little better, but it sounds like an Aztec goddess...
Stryamin is good, but my peronal favorite is Stryomine.
Just thought I'd add my two-cents worth in... {yolkfolk}:delight:
Of course! It reminds me of ancient DizzyAGE Legends that were lost to us. Now they have reappeared in a whole new but seperate set of games. I dunno if you like this idea, but that is what occurred to me!
By the way, Delta I can't wait for CoTM!!!
