Welcome to sunny Grogg Island; a wonderful getaway nestled in the sparkling cyan seas 33 miles off the coast of the oppressive Dragon Valley. Gaining 8 out of 10 stars in 'Scum o' the Earth' magazine, Grogg Island is the number 1 choice for any self-respecting brigand during their exile.

The Lighthouse Keeper's House

From sandy beaches and grotty bars to dangerous jungles and spectacular panoramic views, our island caters for all tastes. Plus, we are surrounded by a dangerous reef which ensures capturing passing merchantmen is like shooting fish in a barrel!

Historical Interest

Grogg Island has been inhabited for over 300 years! The first settlers were head-hunters and cannibals. These activities are still practised by The Wikuqu tribe on the east side of the island so any trips eastward should be taken with caution.
The island was named by Captain Wretch, a privateer in The Royal Navy of King Dragos III in reverence of his favourite drink. Captain Wretch was exiled due to mistaking a ship-of-the-line for one of Zaks' dreadnoughts. He ploughed a devastating broadside into the vessel sinking it within 8 minutes (a record at the time!). The merciless king banished the dashing captain to build his home on this wonderful jewel of the ocean.
When he arrived he took half of his men and disappeared into the jungle never to return. Some say that Wretch found a way off the island and lived out his days in anonymity but others believe he couldn't bear the thought of someone stealing his treasure and so buried himself alive along with his gold. However, any budding treasure hunters beware; Captain Wretch will surely not give up his precious cargo so easily.
So when The King sends you into unjust exile think of us living the buccaneer's dream and join us on the wonderful...GROGG ISLAND!

Wow! Love what you've done with the colours. The subtle two-shade green-leafed tree, the store... Great stuff!

I reckon I'll take maximum time allowed before the closing date. I go through patches of doing a lot to it then it'll sit there for weeks without being touched.

Thanks for the positive reactions :teethy: I'm excited to know what you'll think of my favourite bit but I can't reveal what it is cos it'll spoil it. One bit of info I can say is that you'll be meeting someone from the previous game.

I've been working on this tonight. I thought I'd nearly finished the map but I've realised I've got about 10 more interiors to draw. Yep, you'll be able to explore every building in the game. Plus collecting coins will be a little different. You won't just be finding them lying about the place, you'll have to put some graft in!

I think I've now finished the map and custom tiles. So now I guess I'll use my sunday to get some coding done.

I want to start on my next game which is inspired by a Pink Floyd song. I first thought that it wouldn't be that big but when I start thinking about puzzles it'll probably become another monster drain on my time. That'll be the third part in the Dragon Valley Tetralogy.

As always I cannot wait for another new quality Dizzy game :teethy:

My eyes are buggered. I've spent most of the night giving the map a massive overhaul. I've decided to make it a daytime game. Can't be on a tropical island without a little sunshine! A little reggae, some drunk pirates, what more do you want? Engrossing story lines? intricate puzzles? That's just greedy.

A little update.

After a big ol' push today I've nearly finished coding all the puzzles. Just a couple left.

'To Do' List

  • Add the baddies
  • Add the collectable items
  • Outro
  • Start screen
  • HUD

It's getting to the point where everyone else is finishing and releasing their game and I feel like I've got ages to go yet. It's like when you were at school and everyone that had finished their stuff could go home. I WANT TO GO HOME! Been working on this sucker since late August so I hope it's good.

I know the feeling! you just want it to be over with, so you don't have to bother with it anymore!

Damn right. To top it all off I have a cold and I'm struggling to see through watery eyes. Got to suck it up and soldier on though, can't let the masses down!

Not much left now. A couple of puzzles, outro and opening screen, respawning and room names. I think that's about it. Then I'll be needing a couple of testers.

To think this has taken me over half a year is unbelievable. I think the map design of the next one is going to look a lot more simple. Though the detail of Grogg Island isn't especially high it's just that there are loads of rooms. Well anyway that's for next year's comp so I'll put that to one side for the time being.
