And today I recorded a walkthrough of that Spellbound Dizzy "Lite" edition! Part 1 Part 2
Something I noticed while playing all this Spellbound Dizzy was that not only does the Commodore 64 version divide up some of its music between the title screen and the gameplay, but the title screen music contains a piece that wasn't in the original Spectrum and Amstrad theme... How to describe it, you know that part where it goes into the key of E and then has the arpeggios that step up and down and up? That part seems to have originated with the Commodore 64 versions, then the 16-bit versions mixed it all into one longer loop. So again the Commodore 64 music sets the standard for later systems... But for some reason the Atari ST version was transposed back down a whole step, so it sounds more like the Spectrum music.
I don't know, does Steem have video recording? I mostly use SainT for Atari ST games, as it skips the whole operating system and just loads the games, and it has savestates, WAV recording, and AVI recording. I did use sound recording in Steem once for Crystal Kingdom Dizzy though, as SainT failed to produce the sound of the dinghy flying away, and I was mixing extra sound into the video anyway. Also, as with many TV-based systems, SainT includes a large border for "overscan", so I have to figure out the true dimensions of the actual game graphics and crop the border out when I edit the recording in VirtualDub for online video.
Well, I haven't committed to making any new longplays yet, but I just wanted to point out that if anyone's considering recording Fantastic Dizzy for PC on DOSBox, I think it would be a good idea to go into the configuration file and set "cycles=max", as otherwise the game will slow down a lot whenever there's a lot of moving objects (a la Dizzy The Ultimate Cartoon Adventure). We all like swift gameplay, right?
Also, I didn't even know DOS had a 320x223 mode, but that's apparently what the main game runs in as that's what DOSBox outputs. The company logo is a separate executable that runs at 320x200 though, so even if you run dizzy.bat, you'll still have some work to do to combine the resulting videos afterward if you want to include that logo animation.
Now, if you're recording the AGA version of Fantastic Dizzy for Amiga/CD32 and want to get really fancy, you could try rendering the video at quadruple resolution to better show off the "quarter pixel scrolling" of backgrounds it features. It might not be very noticeable, but for "high-definition" viewers it should make it a tad nicer.

Hey, if you prefer to see The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy as a single video, I just found a play of version 1 by Spolan and a play of version 2 by kireev20000, which was also submitted to the official Longplays Project!
Hi, I just uploaded a play through attempt for Fantastic Dizzy. It's not perfect but have a look and comment. It's 3 hours divided into 15 min segments. Recorded from hardware. {yolkfolk}:joy:
Good work, Jimmimak! I’ll try to watch the rest of it this weekend.

Thanks! I noticed you did a Dizzy speed run or something on Youtube, I'll have to look at that at some point.
In my playthrough video I think the pace of play is slow in places, so sorry about that - I was rusty. I will have to practice a bit more, and work out the most efficient order to do the tasks. For now, it can act as a reference or reminder for people as there's not much GG/MS Dizzy footage out there. I'm glad I managed to memorise the mine cart route this time. Zacks tower is just cruel though, how it changes to the NES game mechanics after you have been learning how to run and jump on the Master System version for 3 hrs :wall:
I once played through the Game Gear version of Fantastic Dizzy in a really slow way at first to take advantage of a glitch to maximize my score early on.
It's possible to do the same thing in the Game Gear version of Dizzy the Adventurer, but it's a much shorter game with more ways to mess up the sequence you need to take, so I eventually gave up on winning a perfect score for that one.
I just saw that XGamingPhunX made a longplay of Fantastic Dizzy for PC! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUXeNXMZH9o XGamingPhunX also made a video of the original NES version just before that.

I know there's still a few more I've missed out from the links that Bag of Magic Food provided, It's just the time is kind of against me at the moment and dealing with the walkthroughs that are split into parts are quite time consuming, I will try to get the rest of them listed on the site soon.
