Web Site Updates/Suggestions

Love the updates. {yolkfolk}:yo:

Few points:

The Search button on the games page needs resizing in Chrome. Haven't checked on others yet.

The paging is great.
Is this custom coded or an add in?
Is there going to a be a First/Prev button added?

All of the site has been custom coded from scratch over the course of many years, as for the layout we are still working on it and you will find things changing slightly over the coming days as everything is updated.

You will find that the search boxes have now been updated to something abit nicer :smile:

Cool fonts, I do like Aclonica, gotta love Google fonts.

The search looks great and headings really stand out well.

huh? No it doesn't!

EDIT:: I just checked, it does in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari, but doesn't in Opera or IE8. I use Opera.

Opera should be working, i left out the opera specific CSS tag for border images (-O-BORDER-IMAGE)

Its because IE (typical for Microsoft) is incapable of following web standards, and so doesn't support the border image tags in CSS3 .

We are now using the border-image tag to create all the wooden boxes. using this bit of css all the boxes are made from a small 48x48 png rather than the many different sized box images we had before, also it ensures that if the content area expands then so does the box.

That's the main reason why I don't use IE, apart from it being horrendously slow too. I look down on sites and applications that demand to use IE only. There was a lot of arguing over the Blizzard downloader a few years ago when the links would always open up IE and not the default browser. IE has its own way of reading HTML which isn't standard and uses redundant tags that are no longer supported in every other browser. If you've ever tried writing a website using Word then please, don't. IE can display it but every other browser struggles, seen some horrendous pages where every letter was on its own line so it read downwards as a result of thousands of ordered line and divider tags.

Yup, I hate IE. My website doesn't display the rounded borders in IE, and I can guarantee that most things I code will show correctly in every browser apart from IE, and I then have to put in some bodge-job workaround to make it show correctly in IE. Of course, that can't always be done. {dizzy}:mad:

Yes Lex, I believe that IE10 will actually have support for CSS3! It's just a pity that support for XP stopped at IE8...

CSS4 looks like it could be interesting, but it will probably take MS about 6 years to implement it.

I've actually seen people using IE6 (recently!) and wonder why videos etc don't show properly... {yolkfolk}:blink:

Our webmaster at work says that there are still a large number of people using IE6! Probably on dial up!
I use IE8 on my PC, and Safari on my iPad. I can't understand Meph saying IE is fast though? Are you using 9? I tried Chrome once, and was amazed how fast it was compared to IE, but unfortunately, a couple of sites I use didn't display correctly in it so I went back to IE. not sure if Safari is much quicker, as the iPad Wifi seems a little flaky, It seems to work best if I wave the iPad around at the router, otherwise it risks timing out {yolkfolk}:puzzled:
And I agree with Delta that it is a shame that IE9 isn't available to XP, as I am on XP. But I don't hate IE, as I don't have to programme for it, as the comments are correct that Microsoft likes to use its own unique standards

That's because IE9 is the first MS browser to actually attempt to adhere to web standards. :tongue:

Ah yes, I remember now. I was trying to design my personal page to work in IE and Chrome as IE was struggling with displaying some of the CSS stuff. I upgraded to IE9 and couldn't do the tests no more and thought it was working fine, that was until I visited the site on a machine that hadn't upgraded and saw how badly out of line everything was.
