Hope this happens but why just 1 month to raise funds?

That's what I'd like to know really, would've made sense to move the deadline to a further date, and Christmas is coming up aswell which is one of the reasons why I think It's not likely to reach the target.

It's almost at 15k today.

I am happy with its progress and and lot of excitement and speculations have been going around along with some perhaps not so sobering potential shortcomings.

Upside is all we can do it promote promote promote.. and pledge..

Ive uploaded their original pledge video to my youtube account here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCjCKZSnBpg

Constantly thinking of more ways to promote the kickstarter program.

Does really matter how big, or detailed the game is, the fact they have 12 people contracted for 6 months on the game is what's important, whatever they want to do will be done in 6 months with 12 people. lol

It's still a lot of money, less than half will be wages for those 12, Plus running costs obviously.
And there will be still some to spare i bet.

But, while in the grand scream of things it's a reasonable budget i guess, Dizzy fans ain't going to be able to dig into their pockets to fund it. On the other hand, if they can't reach the target then clearly a new dizzy game lacks interest so would they be able to sell it anyway?

I've been away for a long time (nice to see everyone is still here LOL). About the wonderful news, I would love to see Dizzy Return-ing, but i too think that 350 is a LOOOTTT of money. But surely would be AMAZING to have Dizzy back.

Hope they find some pot of gold in the end of a rainbow :teethy: - I mean - I REALLY HOPE they do!!! {dizzy}

Only 5% of the target, so far.
I pledged a £100 but i still don't think we will get there
I can't afford any more than that, sorry.

But it's a shame to read they've already started working in it, seems silly if project will be canceled if the target is not reached.

It's the catch-22 of Kickstarter. You need money to start a project, but you need to have started the project to have a successful Kickstarter campaign.

There's a really upsetting amount of negativity based on the fact people assume the Olivers are rolling around in cash, and that the Kickstarter page has nothing except ideas.

I'm hoping that if some gameplay footage or mockups can be demo'd that the campaign will take an upturn.

I totally agree Deejay.
Us (Yolkfolk.com) are positive something will come of the Kickstarter Campaign and are constantly spreading the word and helping as much as we can.

There are bound to be a few people out there who are pessimistic about the campaign and its targets, but we push on and continue.
Your contribution to the kickstarter comments section etc has been great and we certainly enjoy your informative words.

I think it's becoming increasingly hard to be optimistic - at the current rate of donations they'll be really lucky to break £100k, let alone 350. Hopefully, as you say, once they've mocked something up to give people an idea of the gameplay, we'll see a surge in donations. I desperately want this project to happen and made sure we mentioned it over on Den of Geek, but it's difficult to stay positive with the current numbers.

Come off it.. one month to come up with £350k thats just rediculous, AND so
close to christmas. People, (dizzy fans), most have familys.. so what would come
first? family christmas or a game? Im sorry but its a STUPID idea to put this up on
kickstarter now, they should have waited until february.
My only concern now is that they are NOT gona hit that target, they should bump
the date to atleast 3 months, also "we want your financial support"? come off it
oliver twins.. you guys must have a bit of £££ with the games you've made in the past,
whats the matter with YOU putting up the money, or part of it, and then getting the
royalties or % of whatever the charge for the games going to be so atleast you get
back.
Okay, enough moaning, my thoughts of a new dizzy game is totally WOW! and cant
wait to see if it happens, im setting myself up to be disappointed though because a
months not long enough. Im going to do my bit by supporting the project, and also
I'm gona post the kickstarter address on facebook everyday for a month... lol but
it's a start.

You can be pessimistic and supportive as i am, other wise i wouldn't have put in a pledge.
I really want this to succeed but i know very well it's unlikely.

But the point i was making is it's pretty sad to here they've already put in a lot of hours only to go to waste if the project doesn't reach the target.

I'm not sure of the rules but can't they re-start it again if the tragic is not reached?
perhaps, they should have started promotion a few weeks before starting the clock)

Get them a lotty fund, that would help :teethy:

This assumption is just flat-out incorrect, and I suspect part of the cause of wider negativity.

Developers who do not work with their own IP are not cash-rich. They get an advance from a publisher which pays for the costs of developing a game. This is often broken into chunks dependent on hitting milestones. Once the game is released, royalties are paid after a certain number of units are sold, and after "costs" are recouped by the publisher. The Publisher will do everything humanly possible, legal or otherwise, to inflate costs so as not to have to pay royalties to the developer.

The net result is that studios like Blitz live hand-to-mouth, only ever having enough money to fund the current project. Anything surplus gets put away for a sparse periods between projects.

Additionally I've been in Philip's car and (no offence if you're reading this!) it's not a sports car, and it's not new. The most common lunch I saw Philip and Andrew have in the office was instant soup. If they're rolling around in money, they do a great job of hiding it. Finally, if they had the money to revive their passion, do you not think they'd use it?

Yeah i doubt they've got that kind of money just sitting around lol, they're not living on the poverty line but i don't think they're filthy rich.

And i've said this before, it's not always about money, it's about people, and no doubt they've already and will continure to give up a lot of their own time and sometimes that's worth a lot more!!!

Are Codemasters out of the loop? If they've got the rights to the original games, then a new game might be in their best interest, a little investment from them might make good businesses sense? (especially if they remake the games like the POYF last year)

I may be reading a different thread to you, but I didn't think there was any negativity on this forum to this project, after all, this is the right and best place for support! I can only assume that you thought comments such as my previous post were negative, in which case I can only say that a pessimist is what an optimist calls a realist. The main thrust of the 'negative comments' on this thread from various parties is that this is a lot of money to raise in a very short time span (and at the wrong time of year maybe), and that extrapolating from the pledges so far, it would appear unlikely that it will succeed, which I think we can all agree would be a shame. Let's face it, no-one on this forum is likely to want this to fail! Other than this Deejay, I feel that your comments have been extremely helpful and worthwhile, and appreciate your input.

One area that you haven't touched on, and one that I believe you are in a very good position to comment on, is the amount required. You have independently released Clover, a very nice polished game. Did this cost £350K to bring to market? I very much doubt it cost anywhere near this amount (in the nicest possible way) as this figure would make independent publishing nigh on impossible. So, is the £350K required reasonable? I appreciate that, of course, if you had a budget of £1million, you could easily spend it on making the game, but would the extra cash really make a lot of difference? I realise that the Olivers will have costed what they want to produce, but my feeling is that they would have more chance of success compromising some areas with a lower budget, for example in the graphics. This may be one area where the game could cut corners, as lets face it, the graphics aren't the reason we love Dizzy games, and are still all these years later more than happy playing DizzyAge games with Spectrum style graphics 30 years on. After all, a lot of Apps market their 'Retro Graphics' as a plus point! Gameplay is king, as our eggy friend has showed us for all that time!

While I would love to see a new Dizzy game, there are numerous reasons why I will not be supporting this project.

Firstly, £350,000 is a LOT of money. If you expect the public to part with that amount for something as trivial as a cartoon game, then you need to supply full details of how this money will be spent. The information on the site does not go into any real detail. Is this merely a means to fund a mid-life crisis?

Then there is the fact an established company is using kickstarter. Is this a way around costs, licensing, taxes etc? I always thought of kickstarter as a way for up and coming producers and amateurs to get a project off the ground. It is similar to how all the corporations jumped on eBay years ago, which ruined it for the independent seller.

Then there are the supported platforms. This is just my own personal preference, I do not own, and never intend on owning, any Apple devices. I prefer to play games on games machines, and while I do use emulators on the PC, I find the PC not ideally suited to gaming. I also cannot believe the game is not being considered for Android.

Sorry for coming across overly cynical, but where large amounts of money is concerned it is the only way to be in this country.
