DizzyAGE Easter Competition 2016 "officially" OPEN

Submissions END on June 1st
Voting ENDS on August 1st

Announce your entries in this thread and I will check it from time to time and list them on the competition page:
https://www.yolkfolk.com/dizzyage/competition.php

Also, don't forget about the prizes, if anyone has something nice to offer for the winners, please announce it here too and I'll update the prizes page:
https://www.yolkfolk.com/dizzyage/competition_prizes.html

And I encourage you to speak about the competition online (forums, facebook, etc.), maybe we bring in new developers.

As it was said it's the 10th Anniversary of DizzyAGE, but it's the 11th Easter Competition :hitwall:

Have Fun!
Alex

*Wipes the dust off thread*

I believe Grandad is entering Daisy's Odd Day into the Competition.
https://www.yolkfolk.com/dizzyage/game.php?id=290

Now, apologies if this post sounds cheeky on any level but I've been thinking.
Would it be OK to enter the Crystal Kingdom remake into the Competition?
https://www.yolkfolk.com/dizzyage/game.php?id=283

It was released a couple of weeks AFTER last year's Competition ended.
I do plan to update it, but annoyingly It's something I can't tend to myself.

Yes, reckon the remake of Crystal Kingdon Dizzy should be allowed as an entry so that lotsa of people can give it a much higher score than Daisy's Odd Day {dizzy}

If there doesn't end up being enough entries maybe since this is DizzyAGE's tenth anniversary it could be made into a big celebration and allow every game to be entered? Or have all ten comp winners compete to crown the ultimate champion of the first decade?

That could be fun.

Or allow each member to submit one of their games, if everyone picked what they thought was their best game we can see who's best of the best. lol

It'll come as no surprise to any of you that I don't check this forum very often now.

If Meph's idea happens, the choice of mine would be Mystic Forest Dizzy. I thought I'd say that now, as there's no guarantee I'll be back on here before the competition ends!

Just to help Alex get to grips with what's been entered for this year's Competition....

:egg: Daisy's Odd Day (Steve Rennie)

:egg: Crystal Kingdom Dizzy (DizzyAGE Remake) (Adam Markey and the Dizzy Community)

:egg: Dizzy Goes to Hollywood (Steve Rennie)

:egg: Dizzy in the Dungeons (DizzyAGE Remake) (Dr. Titus)

And if Alex is satisfied with the suggestions that SnTrooper and Meph made above, then I can make Peter aware of it so he could enter one of his past remakes without actually doing anything, especially since the Spellbound remake missed out as a Competition entry years ago.

Maybe we could two polls.
One fore new games, as usual.
And a special edition with either all the past winners, or each developer entering one of the oldies. Or both (three polls) yay lol

Or maybe not.

Well it is possible to create many polls. For example...

The best game - Dizzy And The Other Side
The most advanced game on a code - Dizzy - Night at the Museum
The biggest game - Illusion Island Dizzy
Game in one screen - Log Cabin Dizzy
The most beautiful game - A Pirate's Life Dizzy
The most difficult game - Don't Panic Dizzy!

So the imagination can be included at full scale.

It's so annoying that my current project won't be even nearly ready for this year's competition! Probably what 'll do is finish where I'm at, polish it up and release it as a demo... of a game for probably next year. Maybe others are having the same problem? The quality last year was very high. If you do end up doing two, please enter Tycoon Dizzy - I was really quite happy with that one

I was just thinking, didn't EgoTrip say he was planning to enter a game?

Hey,

I've listed the 4 entries on the competition page.

There were a few other games since last year's comp. I guess Steve Rennie picked his best two.
But I think there was AndyG with "Father Diz" that wasn't in the last year. Andy, you can add it now if you want.

On 1st June the voting should become available by php magic - I'll check on it making sure it works.

If anyone has a game on the roll and you can't finish it in time (1 day, duh!), it will be fine to add it in later, during vote time if you like - there are 2 months of voting and only 4 entries, so it would catch up fast

-----------

As for the format of the competition, I'd like to keep it by the same rules (games of the last year).
But, I very much enjoy the idea of having something special, since it's the 10th year of DizzyAGE.

As Rindex suggested, it would be nice to have a few categories and everyone to nominate a DizzyAGE game for each category. Like the DizzyAGE Oscars with any game since the beginning of time.

So, I'll look into this after the normal competition, maybe later this year, and find a tech solution. Not sure if I have the time to code something integrated in the website, but at least a simple and functional pool online service and list them on DizzyAGE after that.

I'll start a thread in time and ask for categories ideas, like the one mentioned: Best game, Best remake of an original Dizzy game, Longest, Best developer, etc...

-----------

Until then, let me know if you have any prizes for sponsoring the Easter Comp.
I would offer some digital games on Steam or Gog or other such websites, if you liked the idea.

Have fun!

Don't really mind how many of my little efforts get entered Alex as I really do just enter the competition for the fun of it and to make up the numbers. On a serious note, I'd rather fill the bottom places with my games than someone who's put their heart and soul into making a game.

As far as prizes go, why bother? Why not just do the extra you do every year and just issue the entrants with a certificate. Personally, I think that's much more satisfying as you put effort into making them.

If you do intend to have a separate 'best of' competition then I would like to suggest a 'most sexually perverted' category - that's one category I would win hands down (or tied behind my back) {yolkfolk}

I'd like to see a 'Worse Game' category as well.

Thanks for the offer, Alex! I see I'm too late now, but I didn't plan on entering this anyway. Even though I put lots of time and love into it (mostly on the ****ing wallpaper!), I wasn't all that happy with the end product. Hopefully my new project will be ready for the next one!

Good luck to those who entered! The only game I've not played yet is Dizzy in the Dungeons, so I must get on that very soon {yolkfolk}:joy:

Reckon you were the only one who thought that Andy, I don't think I was the only player changing my pants on a regular basis whilst playing it!

They are two. One of them - "Adventure of Dizzy - Part 1" The scenario is made badly.

I won't tell the second. The author at a forum.

Thanks a lot Grandad  Maybe I should have thrown it in, if only to make the numbers up. Oh well! I'll have to vote soon... I'm thinking the Crystal Kingdom Remake will get my biggest thumbs up, but I'm still to complete Hollywood, and I've barely started Dungeons...

Andy, a games biggest critic is always the developer as they always see potential improvements after publication; apart from Rindex of course. He's referring to my 'A Nice Cup of Tea' game and the lack of graphical detail in the Theo section where different candles change the layout, which he whinged on about when the game first came out. But, he's an artist, so he only considers graphics, not gameplay ..and to be fair, the Russian team's graphics are excellent.

Plus of course, I can always depend on him to give my games a crap score in the competition {yolkfolk}:yahoo:
