Holy cracknell! Who else is crying with excitement over the preview of the new Zelda released this week?! I know I am. And if I may also hijack this hype for my own gain...

A few more tweaks and fixes and the demo version of my own Zelda-themed Dizzy game will be ready! It mostly follows the SNES one, and so far you can rescue the princess and then beat the first dungeon. It's taken me about a year to get this far, and I'm thinking another year before it's all done - whereupon you can expect two more dungeons before the showdown with Zaks!

Also - optional side quests? Yes please daddy! Time travel puzzles? Why certainly! A lengthy trading sequence resulting in not much of interest? Well... You can see how I'm spoiling you..

In fact, in the spirit of the old codemasters self-praise on their boxes and title screens, here's what they're already saying about Legend of Daisy:
Miraculous! - A. Goulding
Deserves more attention than the Bible! - Andy G
I'd hear my own grandmother thrashed within an inch of her life in an Amsterdam torture garden before I heard a bad word said against this game! - AndyG (Yolkfolk forums)

Very curious to see what you've done Andy. Your other games were both really creative and interesting. :smile:

Thanks a lot Noggin! Very nice of you :teethy: Well it's all done and dusted now, just need to work out how to send it to Adam - but I always have problems with this. The new Windows is a bit of a pain and probably doesn't help... Oh well!

I'm now free to try the latest addition from yesterday anyway :teethy:

It's now up on Yolkfolk. :smile:

This does look fantastic after a quick play around. {yolkfolk}:thumb:

I had a spot of bother trying to download the zip file via E-mail, but the really odd thing is that after saving the zip onto OneDrive, I downloaded it successfully and got to work getting it on the site. :lol:

Downloading now, thanks.
When I want to transfer large files, I use a website called wetransfer.com. This allows you to upload files up to 2Gb on the free version, and you get a link to send to the recipient. The files are deleted from the server after 7 days. No client to download, it's clean and free. {eggs2}:denzil:

Nice one :smile: . Do you know what Winzip does that's special? On a few occasions I was almost tricked into buying it because I thought I needed it to zip/unzip files, forgetting that Windows can do this just fine. And the new Windows bugged me because it kept asking me what program I wanted to use to open my .gs (script) files, and refused to remember my answer. Oh well, taking a breather from it all now :teethy:

If you want to use an external program for your file compression/archive needs, use 7zip. Its completely free, and infinitely better than Winzip, uncompresses rars and all the other main types of compression too.

I also use 7zip but I have had a couple of archives that it didn't work with, so for those I installed Winzip and then uninstalled it again straight afterwards.

Had a quick play on this today. The intro's brilliant. A couple of things strike me straight away - you need to change the rain graphics, and the circling platforms need to be slowed down. I tried jumping off one when it was going downwards, but it didn't work because dizzy was falling when I hit jump.

For the rain, you might want to download Ghastly Getaway Dizzy and pinch the rain tile from that. :wink:

Thanks a lot! I haven't seen that game but I must look into it. By any chance does it use the Magicland Dizzy rain tile? That's what I wanted, but even though I spent many hours piecing together tiles from screen caps, I could never quite get that together. I'll take a look!

Believe it or not, that was the only speed I could really get the platforms working at. Any slower and Dizzy would just roll right off. I guess I forgot how hard it was, having mastered it over many many attempts! (It's easiest to stop the right wheel at the bottom left and then walk down on to it.). I dunno, I may scrap it and try something else :smile:

Looking good so far Andy but .......

One bitch from me though ....Are you in league with Specsavers? - really dark blue conversation text on a black background is sooooooooo difficult to read without sticking my face in the monitor and squinting! Loads of shades of blue on the colour icon and you choose the nearest one to black. {yolkfolk}:crazy:

That's some quality feedback :teethy: . I'd never considered that at all. Consider it changed!

I've found the dragon and got all the stars. I'm left with a bag of sugar and an empty lamp (I love the red soup idea). Have I come to the end of the demo?

I agree with Grandad about the blue text but I can't wait to play the full version. Looks like it'll be a really good game.

Thanks a lot :teethy: and well done! You're almost done (no more items to collect), you just need to find a way to break the bouncy web. I have the rest of it mapped out in my head, may need some help with some of the coding, and I can't for the life of my figure out why the bottom of the graveyard Screens go weird past a point..

Completed the demo now Andy, it looks awesome, hope you find the time to finish it.

I've got a bit of feedback for you - one of the items, think it was the chisel, disappeared behind one of the huts when I dropped it - you need to change the layer on the map.

When you go through doors, Dizzy can still move around while the fade out is happening - you can stop that by adding:

PlayerEnterIdle();
PlayerEnterScripted();

before the fade out starts, then PlayerEnterIdle(); again after you change Dizzy's coordinates.

Finally, with the guillotine area, if you want the scrolling to stop at the gate, I can show you how to do that if you like?

Thank you :smile: I have exit doors in a shortcut function so adding those few lines will be a doddle! The walking to the edge solution you tried to show me before and I turned out to be unteachable, haha. I went back over the whole thread and couldn't work it out. I changed the numbers on the room properties and everything. I might just leave that one be, I'm not sure... I had planned to draw a flashing arrow saying "graveyard" and make out it was an artistic choice, but it must have slipped my mind! I'll pop this in and see how I feel.

My two main problems I'll need to address: 1. After the sanctuary, the scrolling screens seem to all shift a few pixels up! I have no idea why. It's most noticeable in the graveyard, although you can't see the difference because you can't access it beforehand. 2. Parallax scrolling seems to only work twice for me and then no more. Again, no idea why. :dizzy_confused:

Also, not really a problem, but a future headache I'm not looking forward to: sorting the journal out so that text for completed characters is a different colour, and adding a "next / previous page" feature.
