Anyone else a little confused about the monarchy of Keldor?

There are a few things I don't understand about Keldor. {yolkfolk}:puzzled:  

Rockwart, Prince Clumsy and Zaks have all been king/prince of Keldor at some point. According to the character bios on Yolkfolk.com, Prince Clumsy was Prince of Keldor “until Zaks arrived”. Rockwart was apparently king of Keldor until “Zaks took over his mind”. So did the two reign at the same time, one as prince, the other as king?

After Zaks’ untimely demise the kingdom ended up ruled by an Evil King, as is mentioned in the blurb of Fantasy World Dizzy.
Is the Evil King in FWD the same king who makes Dizzy prince of the Yolkfolk in PotY? Or does he too get deposed?

And one last thing: where is Katmandu? Is it another name for Keldor which was replaced because it kept being confused with Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Or is Katmandu another land altogether which is also terrorised by Zaks and has to be liberated by Dizzy?

On a note unrelated to Keldorian politics, I found an amusing mistake in the Russian translation of Peter Teal's remake of Spellbound Dizzy.

In the original English, Denzil says about the Sinclair ZX81: "WELL, I USE THIS ONE TO HOLD THE DOOR OF MY PAD OPEN!"

The Russian translation reads: "НУ, Я ЕГО ИСПОЛЬЗУЮ, ЧТОБЫ У МЕНЯ БЛОКНОТ ВСЕГДА БЫЛ ОТКРЫТЫМ!"

For those who don't Russian, it says more or less this: "I use it to keep my notepad open!" :lol:  

Obviously in the original Denzil was referring to the door of his hut. A better translation would be: "Ну, я его использую, чтобы дверь моей хаты всегда была открытой!"

Following on from my post while also returning to Keldorian politics, I have found another error in the Russian translation of Peter Teal's remake. "The Yolkfolk" is translated as "жители Йолкфолка" that is the "inhabitants of Yolkfolk". There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what the Yolkfolk is among the Russian community. I have seen Yolkfolk referred to as "a kingdom" and "a village". The Russian Wikipedia page for Magicland Dizzy even calls it "the county of Yolkfolk"! :wall:

Message for Russians: Йолкфолк это не графство, королевство или деревня, а название расы яйцеподобных человечков, населяющих леса королевства Келдора.

I don't think the Oliver Twins took the continuity of the early games too seriously, they were quite young back then, hence why the stories, characters and locations were pretty much all over the place.

And I think 'Fantastic Dizzy' acted as a reboot to the series looking at how some things have changed.

Just a heads up I may be mentioning Fantastic Dizzy a lot here.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure where the character bios used on the site came from in the first place.
But they share some interesting stories even though some elements were never officially brought up on the games themselves.

Personally, I tend to use the story from Fantastic Dizzy, the manual scans, the map on the back of the poster and the character bios from the collectors cards as true sources when it comes to research.
Including the more lengthier story line from The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy on NES.

On that note, the game's story mentions that Zaks did take over Keldor Castle and renamed the kingdom Zakeria (according to the map), - It's never mentioned what the kingdom was called before, other than "The land of the Yolkfolk".

Then when Grand Dizzy escapes Zaks' and his guards after being summoned, Zaks appears to have completely abandoned Keldor castle and built a entirely new castle up in the clouds using ancient magic and using trolls as slaves.

Looking at the collectors cards however, there does appear to be some confusion.
Saying that Zaks' fortress in the sky is 'Castle Keldor', leaving to wonder if the abandoned castle that's in Keldor really is the original.

The collectors cards also mention the Yolkfolk and trolls (including Rockwart) used to be friends before Zaks brainwashed the trolls with Rockwart as Zaks' army leader - but no official mention of him actually being king, possibly just assumed seeing he was made an army leader.

Prince Clumsy is described as a useless heir to the throne, but I'm unable to find any official mention that Clumsy had links to Keldor castle or the king and princess from Prince of the Yolkfolk/Dizzy the Adventurer.

The tape inlay of Fantasy world also mentioned Wizard Weird and his tallest tower.

I don't think the two kings are linked or related somewhat.

Well this was the very first game, its possible that the Olivers had different ideas for Dizzy's world at the time, before eventually settling for the series taking place in the kingdom of Zakeria, with a treehouse village, a neighbouring town, a beach, a graveyard and a castle in the clouds belonging to Zaks.

OK so with all this said, I guess trying to make sense of Dizzy's World is fairly confusing, even with my best efforts! {yolkfolk}:blink:

According to the game's credits, the late Rindex was the Russian involved with the translation.
It's likely those mistakes were either overlooked or missed accidentally.

I don't know if the remake can still be modified, but you could try passing this info onto the Russian DizzyAGE community who were very close friends with Rindex.

OK, I've done some more digging around and I found this in an Instructional Manual from the Spectrum version of the "Dizzy Collection".

It's an alternative story line for Magicland Dizzy.

According to that story, Katmandu is a county in Zakeria.

Dizzy strutted about, pacing up and down his little treehouse.
He was bored with a capital B!

Once upon a time, Katmandu, a small county of Zakeria, had been THE place to be - Eggciting wasn't the word!
Alright, horrible old wizard Zaks used to be a bit of a meany but it was much more exciting than watching Daisy knit old uncle Jock McDizzy a kilt.

Dizzy wanted a new adventure.
Little known to him he was going to get one.
Zaks was not dead as Dizzy thought, in fact, he was alive and kicking and planning out his most dastardly plan yet.

"I'm gonna finish those Yolkfolk if its the last thing I do!"
Zaks yelled.

A little time later...Zaks' plan has worked, well almost.
He cast Character Transforming spells over all Dizzy's friends - Daisy, Dora, Dylan, Denzil, Dozy and Grand Dizzy - turned into strange creatures and other weird things.
Then Zaks teleported them all to Magicland.

Dizzy must find his friends, turn them back to normal and send each of them back to their cozy treehouses back in Katmandu.

@khaosadz That is really interesting, thank you! I'm definitely going to try and feature Uncle Jock McDizzy in a game at some point! :tup:  

@anatolie I think you may have misunderstood the subject here under discussion. This discussion concerns the monarchy of the land of Keldor that appears in the Dizzy game series. As far as I know there is no "show" about them; however, if there is one, it sounds worth watching! {yolkfolk}:rofl:
