I have no idea how to run C64 Emulator games, please help!

I must be being a total idiot but I simply cannot work out out how to play the downloadable C64 Emulator games. I start them up, and all I get is a blank purple screen or a menu that I don't know how to get off. {yolkfolk}:puzzled:  

I would be very grateful if somebody could explain what I need to do. {yolkfolk}:puzzled:

What emulator are you using?

@khaosadz I was using C64 Emulator copywrite of Thomas Hochgoetz. It actually seems to work for most games, I had just been being stupid. {yolkfolk}:rofl:

However, I still cannot get Quik Snax to run properly, I load the .d64 file in the emulator and all I get are these messages: "file successfully loaded" and "Ready". I'm sure what to do next. {yolkfolk}:scratch:  

Hmm, I'm not familiar with that emulator so I can't really help with that.

Personally I use VICE for my C64 Emulation, a majority of games work well on that.

@khaosadz Using VICE I have been able to start the game, but now I get stuck on the game menu where it says "Fire to start", but no key I press seems to have any effect. I doesn't matter much though, the other games work fine.

You may have to configure the joystick settings, so you can use the keyboard for games that require a joystick.

Set it to Keyset A so you use the arrow keys and right ctrl for fire.

Also on most games the joystick will work on Port 2, and some on Port 1.

Yeah, I'm afraid Commodore doesn't do straight forward. {yolkfolk}:crazy:
