Spud's Quest 2006 (HELP THREAD)

Has anyone played this game? I'm not talking about the version on Steam, but the free version you can download from this site.

I'm quite near the end. I've got the golden chalice, and the golden hen. I need to wake up the tree, get past the cracked block in the dungeon, open the clam, light the cauldron, open the door in the top-right of the castle.

Unused items: Fishing rod, lump hammer, magnet, apple, dog turd, garden shears, boring book, hen.

Any help gratefully received.

Hi Simon, if it's version 1.01, released in 2006, then I have this game ...but unfortunately, I don't have my solution - but, as I've been playing Treasure Adventure Game (free on G.O.G.) and getting killed far too often for a man of my years, I think it's time to have a break from dying - so I'll play this game today (and probably the next few days too :wall: ), so I'll let you know how I get on, unless someone else helps you first.

@grandad Cheers Steve - this seemed like a long shot (2006!), so thanks

Wow! I'd forgotten how superb the graphics are in this version. However, I am totally stuck in the labyrinth under the mill! Managed to get the bone, but buggered if I can get back up from the lower part of the screen, so will have to go back a long, long way to a saved game to try again and see how I got to the bottom part.

Luckily, my other choice is to check out the mine with the pickaxe, which is how I'll start today's adventuring.

It might take more than a few days to catch up with you Simon, but this is one of those games that keeps you trying ...even if you have to go back to the good old days of actioning every blade of grass and fence on the walkways (that's how I manged to get the magic flower, when checking out all the mushrooms and flowers  ..but have no clue as to what to do with it ...yet!!).

Got a bit further Simon. You need to enter the first 'doorway' in the tunnel in the extra bit of the mine and then do some complicated jumps over blocks and the spike pit. This takes you to a bookcase which gives the recipe for a healing potion (assume its for the bloke in bed above one of the shops in the village) and then the 'blessed waters'. At the bottom is a magic flute, which you use to wake up the tree.

Getting back is a 'sod' as you've got to jump up, right and quickly left from the little block to cling onto the top block above the spike pit.

For god's sake. {yolkfolk} I've been to that room already - it just never occurred to me to take the snorkel in with me. I knew it'd be something daft like that.

I've been enjoying the graphics too actually. The game mechanics are great as well. Everything's really crisp and I like the way Spud hits the ground with a heavy thud if he jumps from too high.

I think I found a bug though. Have you noticed how the coin above the hut near the start keeps reappearing after you save the game?

I know that feeling Simon - hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I did notice that coin, but it seems to have stopped appearing once I reached 20 coins; also the prisoner always asks you to deliver the letter and gives you a new one if you haven't given the 'old' one to Mrs Rope.

One thing that is getting very frustrating is that only certain clouds are walkable (especially those on the 'magic beanstalk pages'). Managed to get two coins between the top and the giants island, but haven't yet tried all the clouds when you drop as you can't pause the game to check where you have to drop to - and there must be a way to get those coins on the battlements unless those unopened castle doors can be opened, but I thought they were just scenery as Spud usually mentions if a door is locked.

I've got the same items as you (apart from the shears and a magic lens), and today I'm going to check out those beanstalk clouds and seeing where I use the 'magic lens' (magnifying glass) that I got from the Merman's chest. I'm just hoping that I don't have to be on that ledge above the clam cos I've read somewhere that it's heat that causes clams to open their shells ..and I just can't reach the top of that ledge no matter where I jump from :wall: .

Hoorah! Finished! - without giving too much away, the following are red herrings as I didn't find any way to use them.

Fishing Rod, Dog Muck, Magnet, Raw Haddock, Lump Hammer, Hen, Apple, Boring Book (not sure if I used the axe to chop down a tree to cross the mucky stuff, but still have it and not useful for anything else)

Also, make sure you don't collect more than 20 coins as you need exactly 20 for one of the last puzzles.

Have fun.

Ok I'm probably going to kick myself again, but I've lit the cauldron, added the ingredients and I'm completely stuck. I've found a map of the game online and there's a potion bottle on the balcony behind the locked door in the castle but I can't see how to get it. I can't find a key, I can't get there by jumping on the clouds...

Also, the woman I gave the letter to never did anything in return, she's still just reading the letter. Has that got anything to do with it?

I solved that one by thinking there must be a reward for letting her know where her husband is, so started clicking around her and her stall and discovered a red rose to her right.

Now you've just got to find who to give it to  .

Ok that was just annoying, the rose was right there. Everything was very simple after that. Finished in a few minutes.

Thanks for the help.

No probs Simon, but replaying 'Spud's Quest' made me check out other fan games that I have but don't have walkthroughs for, and there's quite a lot, including your first game, Dizzy vs the Snow Queen. So it looks like being killed all the time in Treasure Adventure Game will have to wait.
