Game freezes on my NES (everdrive) at same point every time

Hello!

I've been wanting to beat this game on the real system (already done it on emulators) but it just doesn't let me get through when I play. Using some items just kills the game for whatever reason, and one of them happens to be using the item that's meant to save Denzel so the game can't be completed at least on my set up (OG NES, NTSC edition, through an Everdrive so perhaps some kind of weird compatibility issue, but all the other Codemasters games work without a hitch, including the other unreleased Dizzy as far as I can tell.) I've noticed that what kills the game differs by language - it freezes up MUCH earlier in German. In English the two items I can't use are the aforementioned to save Denzel and the Game Genie lamp.

* Edit, here's a video. It isn't using the item to save Denzel, I can't get that far. The initial dialog box with Denzel is what stops the game. https://youtu.be/McYbAiRfv0U

Hi.

I'm not familiar with Everdrive, but it does sound like some kind of compatibility issue as the crashes you mention shouldn't be happening at all. {yolkfolk}

Weird, it looks as if the game had a problem with parsing the text for next bit of dialog.

Are you sure you have the latest version of the ROM?

@dizzy9 did they ever change it? i downloaded this probably when it first was released to the public. i guess i could try with a new copy... would have to play the game through again though since my save won't transfer between files.

IIRC, there were at least 3 ROM versions.

One original that should just work but had glitches on cartridges sold at kickstarter(due to carts not being pure mapper implementations but rather a Chinese multicarts forced to boot a single ROM).

Second version was made with that in mind but may not work in some cases of emulation\everdrives\Consoles like AVS etc.

Third version was requested by Chris Wilkins to allow manual change of Region. This is latest version. If you have an option to change "region", thats the latest one.

@dizzy9 Okay where can I find that version?

The ROM available to download on this very site should be the latest version.

@khaosadz That doesn't seem to have the PAL / NTSC region switch mentioned.

Are you sure the latest Wonderland ROM has the region setting?

I know Mystery World does.

The reason I say this is because the only version of the ROM I can find on Yolkfolk's server (including Wonderland's old mini-site) doesn't have it, nor does the online version and nor does the version included on Evercade's Oliver Twins Collection which works fine.

@eadwine - I can only suggest in the meantime is to play through the ROM that's available on our site anyway.
And if this issue still occurs on that ROM too, just let us know.

Again, I'm not familiar with Everdrive, let alone how it runs, behaves or whether it allows you to change specific settings.

Hi @domas59

That IS the latest version we have on our site, Wonderland doesn't have the PAL/NTSC option like Mystery World does as far as I'm aware.

Sorry for any confusion.

@domas59

Ah, my apologies.

Well I wasn't made aware of this, but if @dizzy9 does have the ROM, I'll make sure the download link on Yolkfolk is updated once I have it.

Hello, i had the same problem with the bug/crack in Mesen Emulator. The NES rom was downloaded from this site.

But after many attempts, I achieved when my character (Daisy) was in left side of the scrren and Denzel was in the rightiest side possible of the screen. This way, the dialogues happen wihout bug/crack.

Other thing that may could help was that i did any possible thing that i could do in this moment of the game. This includes save Dora.

I don't know if this can happen, but i hope so.
