Good afternoon, I am making a port of the DizzyAGE to mobile platforms.
I want to know how popular it is.
Hi.
DizzyAGE has been fairly popular since it launched in 2006.
The first several years there's been a lot of interest with various fans trying out the engine and releasing over 150 games between then and now, some of which were released in time for the annual Easter Competitions that used to take place here.
Nowadays, we don't get as many as we used to, with the exception of one person who has so far made over 50 DizzyAGE games alone.
Most of the other DizzyAGE programmers from back in the day have long since moved on because of either personal life reasons or out of ideas.
But we still try to encourage some new people to try out DizzyAGE, recently we've seen at least 3 new programmers releasing their games in the past year or so.
Because this forum isn't overly active as it once was, I don't know how popular mobile gaming is to those who registered here, and myself and the rest of Team Yolkfolk don't really specialise in mobile gaming in general.
However, on Yolkfolk's social pages, including the Dizzy and Codies Facebook groups we've sometimes been asked about releasing games on Mobile devices, so there may be some interest in the mobile front from there.
If you do ahead with developing a mobile port of DizzyAGE, it would be best to let the engine's creator @xelanoimis know about this too.
All the best.
A lot of work has been done, by the end of 2023, all games can be played on phones
We invite you to participate in closed testing of the Android version of the application!
If you want to participate, leave your Google account in the comments. (Or send it to me in a private message) I will send you a promo code and a link to the application.
For few years now my Pc usage is limited to pretty much just paying bills. An ability to play dizzy games on the go would be most eggscellent. Ill Pm you my email.
Edit: seems like forums no lpnger support private messages?
Heres my email.
[email redacted]
Yes indeed, the forum does not support sending private messages.
I have included you in the testing access and sent you a promo code.
The engine is in the testing stage, if you find bugs, then write here.
The Apple version will be released much later, maybe in spring or early summer.
There was a problem with the play store claiming that this app is not available for my device but giving it a second look just now, it says ot is compatible.
Now, im having trouble as seems like an attempt to buy the app makes the webpage not be able to load..something. Will try again tomorrow.
Thank you very much for describing the problem, try another promo code to purchase the game

Can you tell me what device you have?
I have a Xiaomi phone. I was having Play Store related issues, but managed to overcome them. I didnt play any games yet but have had a first look and the emulator looks truly amazing. Cant wait to play some games tomorrow.
I played with the Egg engine for a bit and is very good.
I Played through several games now and did see any problems aside from Rock Dash Dizzy scrolling being very slow. No idea if its an emulation issue or my phone doesnt have good enough CPU to handle that. Other scrolling games I tried(like Dizzy Rescues Santa) didnt have such issue.
Other than that, emulation seems to be spot on.
Now, in other stuff. I noticed that order of the games to choose from is somewhat randomized every time I close and open the app?
Why is that?
From my wishlist: Please add Favorites so I can quickly jump back to a game I wish instead of looking for it on a randomized list.
Also a question: Are these games just pulled from yolkfolk.com or they need to be converted for the engine somehow?
Great work and big potential so far! Keep the good work.
Edit:
One another thing i miss is information on an author of a given game. Would be nice if i wanted to compare authors.
I also noticed the screenshots can be touched and it adds a small orange circle to them but it doesnt do anything else. I expected the screenshot to be resized to full screen or something.
Thank you for your feedback! It is very important to me.
I'm glad you enjoyed the Egg engine. Regarding the issue with slow scrolling in Rock Dash Dizzy, I have profiled the game and identified bottlenecks that need optimization. I predict a 5% increase in performance, which should make the scrolling smoother.
The order of the games will indeed be fixed. The interface is currently under development and will be redesigned. I plan to add filters for searching games by authors and high ratings. Adding games to favorites is a great idea, and I will definitely implement it.
The games are indeed taken from yolkfolk.com, and more will be added in the future. They run without any conversion, as I focused on 100% compatibility with the vanilla engine version 2.4. I have written and implemented over 100 unit tests to ensure compatibility, taking platform specifics into account.
The engine is in the testing and active development stage. In the release version, the interface with the game list will be significantly changed, and there will be an option to run your own games from a memory card.
Once again, thank you for your feedback and suggestions. I value your opinion and will continue to work on improving our product. If you have any more questions or suggestions, please let me know!
Only now i realized there was a new version uploaded for a few days now. It may be a good idea to implement a notification when a new engine version is available.
I really like the new pixelart theme of the main menu as well having more games per page.
New feature idea: a button in main menu that, when pressed, it starts the last game played.
Keep up the good work! :)
I am pleased to introduce the new version [IP redacted]! In this update, I've made several improvements and fixes:
Fixed issues with double screen updates.
Resolved problems with minimizing and maximizing the game on Android.
Enhanced the performance of the scripting engine.
Added a button to launch the last played game.
Game sorting still needs improvement.
Redesign the game description window.
Develop a prototype feature for launching games from a memory card.
I played for a bit and I am very pleased with this update.
The quick play button was a much needed addition, thanks!
Other changes are good too.
Cant wait for ability to load games from memory card.
One issue I have had though was with the Dizzy Stories games: These allow you to run with a CTRL key but using it with Egg Engine is not possible.
While I cant think of any other games with extra keys, I must ask: are there plans to support such instances?
Thank you for the feedback. We plan to implement enhanced controls. All the buttons requested by the game will appear on the screen, and pressing them will emulate the corresponding actions. However, I haven't found any games that use such keyboard buttons. It would be helpful if you could list these games. I could run tests on them.
Aside from mentioned Lord of darkness and its sequel, Curse of the Mystics, I dont really know of any other game.
Will keep an eye for that while trying other games, though.
Is there a way to transfer save files to PC?
Lately, I've run into a bug and Im not sure if its Egg engine fault or the original game.
One of the brushes lost its "BLOCK" properties.
Two issues have been found: one with the Brush tool, and the other with saving files to internal storage. The fixes will be included in the next build, scheduled for February 8th
Excellent to hear that.
Two more bug reports:
First,
Game, Dizzy - Night at Museum is unbeatable. Dizzy is supposed to get a screwdriver from Top Drawer, like on the video but the item never shows up. Just tested PC version and item shows up in here.
Second
Both Dizzy - Night at Museum as well as Dizzy: Home Alone will scramble all assets when you select RESTART from in-game menu.
This will affect both graphics and collisions of the game, allowing me to clip into other rooms of the game.
The corruption is removed by re-loading the game in egg engine. Games saved during corruption behave normally after loading the save file(if game was re-loaded).
Same scene for Dizzy - Night at Museum
