Dizzy and Seymour - A Heroes Tale v1.1 [DOWNLOADABLE]

This was meant to come out 2 months ago, but Yolkfolk's server refused to let me upload it for some reason, so I've resorted to uploading it to The Codmasters Archive's server which happily accepted it.
Not that you guys will be able to notice any difference.

Now, Dizzy and Seymour - I'm still struggling with new story ideas, so I'm starting a clean slate with this adventure.
"A Heroes Tale" will serve as the prequel to the 2016 Dizzy and Seymour game, "The Dark Wizard.

With this game, I've made some noticable changes:

-- Refreshed character sprites, especially for Daisy. What's more, all characters can now blink.

-- Using a different display plugin so the game itself should no longer be blurry.
It's a Clickteam Fusion plugin called 'Ultimate Fullscreen', which was used on our "Dizzy The Adventurer" remake.
I really am hoping the plugin won't cause any problems, well knowing my luck.
So far, the only downside is that the new fullscreen display won't play Fade-In transitions.

If this is a success, then I will consider redoing "The Dark Wizard", "Kingdom Gems" and "Spirit Island" from scratch with this new display and refreshed Dizzy engine by @andyuk somewhere down the line.

Anyway, after 2 and a half years, here is my latest bizarre creation.

v1.1

:egg: DOWNLOAD FROM YOLKFOLK

Story:

Dizzy and Seymour have known each other for many years.

Dizzy has spent most of his life protecting his family and friends from the evil wizard Zaks.
With lots of experience with exploring, puzzle solving and using his knowledge to outsmart his enemies, Dizzy is seen as Zakeria’s biggest hero.

Seymour started off in life as a janitor for Findelmeyer Studios.
After proving his helpfulness and showing off his acting skills, Seymour became a superstar.

One day, Seymour and his film crew visit Keldor town for their next movie.
Unfortunately for them, Zaks causes carnage in the town forcing everybody to flee.
The film crew fled in one direction out of town, while Seymour found himself heading towards Keldor forest where he bumps into Dizzy.

After learning about Zaks’ latest attack, Dizzy and Seymour team up as they seek help from good wizard Theodore, and together manage to defeat Zaks.
Seymour becomes good friends with Dizzy and the Yolkfolk and he decides to move to a quiet part of Keldor to become a book author.

Now, usually most stories end here.
But one day, Dizzy tells Seymour that the Yolkfolk have disappeared and believes that this could be Zaks’ doing.

Can you help Dizzy and Seymour solve the mystery and save the Yolkfolk?

@bomb-omb42 Sorry about that, the folder I kept it in got deleted.

I've updated the downloaded link now, hopefully this one should work.

 Hi, Adam!

The graphics in the screenshots look beautiful, I especially like the leaf tiles.
Unfortunately, I don't have a chance to play it game right now, but I will when I have some free time.

Egcellent! I finally got around playing it.

I love the series and always wait for the next entry to come out.

The Heroes Tale is decent, good looking and sounding game.

My problems with the game are usual ones: Sliding of surfaces and some enemies chomping on Dizzy rapidly.

Still, upsides (general gameplay and story) make up for it.

Thank you for making the game, I truly enjoyed it!

Edit:

Very minor glitch in password menu: When changing numbers from 0 to 9, number 1 flashes briefly instead.

Hi Adam!

Sorry for the late reply about your game. I only recently had the opportunity to play it. This is a wonderful game with great graphics and an interesting storyline.

The game has great music, and some of the tunes brought back memories of when I had a ZX Spectrum clone (music from game "Ghouls 'n Ghosts", by Timothy John Follin, and music from "Batman 3" game).

The game has a slightly unusual menu and what, in my opinion, is inconvenient is that you need to set the volume level of sounds and music every time. I didn’t understand what “test sound” is in the settings column, and how to use it.

The game is dynamic, but the scrolling speed is too fast for me.

I liked the animation of the mushroom when Dizzy jumps on it. But if you don't leave the mushroom, Dizzy will jump on it constantly.

I made a short video about how, in a level where you need to collect elephants, Dizzy strangely walked past a cloud, rather than on the cloud.

Also, while playing through the game I noticed a small bug. I wasn't able to capture it on video, so I'll try to describe it in words. When Dizzy dies while jumping (for example, when Dizzy is in the air and a drop falls on him or a bat touches him), he appears near the entrance from the previous level and continues to jump. And if there is a torch nearby, then Dizzy hits it directly and receives health damage. I don't remember the name of that level, it's the level where Dizzy saves Grandizzy.

I couldn't complete the level in Zaks's tower. This is hardcore in the best traditions of games for Speccy. I managed to reach the second replenishment of health, and then I saw an avalanche of falling balls, after which I doubted the possibility of further progress in the game. I managed to shoot the video at the very end, when the intensity of the balls began to decrease. {eggs3}:awooga:

In my opinion, two health refills for such a difficult level is very little, or it was necessary to add a choice of difficulty level to the settings menu. After all, the most upsetting thing is the understanding of the impossibility of completing the game to the end, especially if it is a good and interesting game.

I really enjoyed this game, you did a fantastic work! {yolkfolk}:thumb:

Yeah, I don't know how to get menu settings to save. My programming knowledge is still limited.

Sound Tests were common in Sega Mega Drive/Genesis games.
Basically, just pick a number and press Enter, then it will play either music or sound from the game.

These are all part of @andyuk 's engine, the mushroom thing is not a bug, and I don't know how to address the clouds coding.[quote data-userid="118452" data-postid="92667"]

Strange, I can't get the jumping bug to happen. {yolkfolk}

Yes, just like in Magicland and Prince of the Yolkfolk.

That level is based on the last stage on Fantastic Dizzy.

It is possible to beat it, but its about patience and reacting quickly.

I accept that game play style is not to everyone's liking, especially as the balls drop in random directions.

In the future, I'll see if I can tweak it, but re-uploading the game is currently a problem for me at the moment.

@dizzy9 Very late reply for me, but thank you for your feedback too.

The sliding issue is down to AndyUK's engine.

I know, I've been using this password system for over 10 years and I still don't know how to fix it.
I have tried masking the glitch with borders, but not very well.

Happy New Year, you crazy lot.  {special}:xmas: {special}:chug:

v1.1 should now be up and running.

This update was supposed to come out sometime last year, but I've been having a spot of bother uploading it, only to eventually discover it was a simple fix.

Quite a lot has changed on this update.

-- Added the new disclaimer from EA at the start of the game.
Which means I've now removed the old disclaimer from the Dizzy Fansite splash screen.
The new disclaimer also appears in the ReadMe file in case anybody wants to copy the text.

-- When AndyUK released the sources from his cancelled fan games last year, it allowed me to do some copy and pasting experiments on this game which uses AndyUK's old engine.
The new engine now stops the player from slipping down ramps and rounded objects.
The engine updates is still quirky in places, but it now should be playable without worrying about slipping on hilly platforms.

-- Made a few tweaks in some areas, but its been so long I can't remember which bits I've tweaked.

-- The Zaks Tower level has been tweaked to try and reduce the difficulty as best as I can.
I have never been able to replicate the bug Lightning mentioned where one of the balls get's stuck.

-- There may still be some random oddities where the level name text doesn't always appear at the start of every stage.
I've tried to fix them the best I can.

I have spent the past year reworking one of my other old games, but I'll share that story some other time. {eggs2}:pcgame:
