The DizzyAGE engine was released 20 years ago on the 6th March.
As of today, 171 Fan Games were made using this engine and over 30 authors who brought their DizzyAGE creations to life!
We like to say a big shout out to Alexandru Simion and Christina Simion for creating the DizzyAGE engine back in 2006.
And for releasing “Dizzy and the Other Side” back in 2008 – one of the most memorable fan games we’ve seen in years.
The DizzyAGE games we’ve seen these last couple of decades all vary in difficulty.
Some easy, some hard and some ridiculously hard.
Other games stuck to the classic feel of the original Spectrum games.
While others took the graphics, the music and even the game map to a greater level and brought us some very detailed and atmospheric locations.
We’ve also seen remakes of the original games by Peter Teal and games that take the DizzyAGE engine to a different direction, including the “Dizzy Legends” games by Jamie Douglas, and a number of games made by Andy Mason, Colin Page, Simon Rice, Dr Titus, trz, Verm-V and VK007 to name a few.
What’s more, we have seen a record-breaking 62 games released by Steve Rennie!
And of course, we fondly remember the annual DizzyAGE Easter Competition which ran from 2006 to 2016.
The competition saw many memorable entries and prizes, including a tour of the Oliver Twins’ former studio, Blitz Games in Leamington Spa.
Even though the DizzyAGE activity here isn’t what it once was and most programmers have long since moved on to other commitments, we still occasionally see some new games that keep the eggcellent adventures alive.
What’s more, the recent release of “Wonder Egg” by Andreev “Yozka” Aleksandr has allowed Android mobile users to play these DizzyAGE adventures on the go.
As said previously, Andreev is still planning an iOS release of Wonder Egg, but has to go through a series of legal hurdles with Apple before he’s allowed to release it there.
So there we have it, Happy 20th Anniversary to DizzyAGE!
Here’s to many more years of eggciting adventures that expect to crack a smile – no yolk there!
